I'm a rock journalist, web editor, documentary filmmaker, accordion player, and overall social media nerd... And have I mentioned how much I love Kansas?

The night was so brutal, even the SOUND GUY got into it, wearing the most metal outfit of all when he sported boney spikes and what I can only describe as an unremorseful loincloth. “You are a very well-dressed sound man, man!” exclaimed Hammerlord’s vocalist Stevie Cruz. “Jesus Christ, he’s got fucking bones on his chest!”

“Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim did a sort of flirty, onstage dance with each other, tangoing back and forth while holding their guitars. It was wildly thrilling, yet intensely intimate at the same time. It was so provocative, it almost felt like we were spying into someone’s private life.”

“When The xx came out for their first show in Kansas City, their fans responded with bold liveliness. They filled the Uptown to the brim for what turned out to be a surreal and surprisingly high-energy dance party that will leave a very large footprint in the year’s concert scene.”

“We’re all that we have,” Tryon says in only a half-joking manner. Giese chimed in “We have something really beautiful and all of us see that.” At this point, the band scooted in closely and even wrapped comforting arms around each other. “We’re not going to do something else, right now especially,” Giese said in a certifying tone. “This is the dream.”
We talked to Hundred Waters ahead of their KC show with The xx. You can read about it here.

On Friday, we got the rare chance to see one of the best bands in the business think on their feet. Here’s a lesson in how to properly roll with the punches, from Muscle Worship.

“The place just exploded. The band’s fans tore the place apart and became just a mess of mop-topped rockers thrashing all over the dance area.”

Interviewing The Regrets left me in stitches. This was just one of those photo shoots and interviews where you could not stop giggling. But every now and then, they’d say something that gave you the “warm fuzzies.”
“We’ve been doing this since 1988, and there’s nothing else I’ve done this long in my life. It’s like a second nature sort of thing that we’ve always done. We get together, we piss each other off, we play a kickass show.”
